Whether we like it or not. Whether we believe it or not. The United States is locked in a constant struggles with rivals around the globe. These rivals include, most notably, the Peoples Republic of China, The Russian Federation, as well as several mid-eastern countries, such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, against which we are currently imposing economic sanctions.

All of these, as well as other sovereign nations, would welcome any strategic weakness from American. Such weakness would allow those rival countries to gain economic, and geopolitical advantage.
